New Students
Are you interested in enrolling your child in Community Music School? Please review the following information carefully before applying:

  • New students must apply during the annual enrollment period, which opens April 1 and closes June 30. The online application will be available on this page during the enrollment period.
  • Space is limited, and we are unable to accept all applicants. 
  • Applicants must be 7 years old by September 1st of the school year for which they are applying.
  • Explorations, Journeys & Destinations meet once per week on an academic calendar, with a fall semester from August to December, and a spring semester from January to May.
  • All applicants must be approved for or meet the income requirements of Wake County’s Free and Reduced Price Lunch Program.
  • Families must have access to email and check it regularly in order to participate in our program.
  • New applicants and their parents will be invited for an in-person interview as part of the selection process.
  • We expect students to attend every class/lesson as scheduled and make time for at-home practice, as required by their teacher. Students must also participate in fundraising activities, community performances, and recitals.
  • New applicants who qualify for the program and can read music but do not receive a placement with CMS in the fall will be added to our waiting list. This list will be used to fill any mid-year vacancies.
  • Information regarding the status of applications will be communicated via email by August 1.
  • PLEASE NOTE: Students who are enrolled in CMS classes will have until August 1 to pay their tuition IN FULL. Failure to pay your tuition by the deadline will forfeit your spot at CMS.

Returning Students

  • All returning students must reapply during open enrollment from April 1 through June 30. The online application will be available on this page during the enrollment period.
  • You will need a copy of your current Free/Reduced Price Lunch Program eligibility letter or alternate income verification documents, so please have this document ready.
  • Records of all absences, practice logs and progress reports will be reviewed for each student and will determine the student’s eligibility for re-enrollment.
  • Requests for lesson days and times will be considered, but not guaranteed. Lesson day and time from the previous school year will not automatically remain the same.
  • Information regarding the status of applications will be communicated via email by mid-August.
  • Students who are enrolled in CMS classes will have until August 15 to pay their tuition IN FULL. You can begin making partial payments as soon as you are notified of admission (on or before 8/15). Failure to pay your tuition by the deadline will forfeit your spot at CMS.
