What CMS Offers

The cost for all programs is $1 per lesson! All teachers are highly qualified with music degrees and many are also full-time performing musicians and educators. You will only receive lessons on ONE of the instruments that you choose. However, you may sign up for an instrument AND theatre or handbells if you’d like.

Instruments offered: On your registration form, you should choose 4:

Piano Handbells Music Technology Viola Violin

Voice Percussion (drums) Guitar Ukulele Bass

Clarinet Saxophone Theatre Cello Harp

Once you have made your instrument choices and submitted your registration form, the Director of Music Education will place your child in one of the following programs based on your child’s age and musical experience. Some programs have minimum and maximum numbers of students.

Second graders will begin two years of small group classes where they explore a variety of instruments in Explorations I and II. Third graders will begin with Explorations I. Starting in Fourth grade, students will begin 1 on 1 lessons on the instrument of their choice.

Tom McGuire’s Explorations 1: A group of 3-5 students that learn music fundamentals through the use of bucket drums, recorders, Boom Whackers and Bells. This program is one (1) hour per week. All materials, including instruments are provided. No experience necessary.

Tom McGuire’s Explorations 2: A group of 3-5 students that learn to play the violin and the ukulele. Students will have either a violin or ukulele in the fall and will exchange instruments in the spring. This program is one (1) hour per week. All materials, including instruments, are provided. No experience necessary. These students will participate in a concert in May!

Destinations program: One on one lessons with a teacher. 30 minutes per week. All materials, including instruments are supplied if needed. This program is from 4th grade - 12th grade. No experience necessary. There will be performance opportunities throughout the year with all students performing in May!

Theatre:  This program is offered for grades 3-6. 1 hour per week. All materials will be supplied. No experience necessary. These students will have 32 classes to learn a play, create the set, scenery and costumes and then present the show in the spring! Must have a minimum of 10 students.

Handbells: 3rd through 5th grade and grades 6-8. No experience necessary. 1 hour per week. All materials supplied. Must have a minimum of 10 students per class. These students will participate in multiple concerts!

------While we always try to assign students to exactly what they would like, for a variety of reasons, that is not always possible. We will do our very best to place your child with an instrument and a teacher, in a program that will make your child happy!
